Wallpaper Hanging
Cut strips and start hanging from the top measure and cut strips of wallpaper with your razor blade to fit the height of the wall.
Wallpaper hanging. Hold them both on the wall and adjust the paper to match the pattern on the wall. Mark a straight line across the back and make your cut. If you are wallpapering over pre painted walls add a coat of primer first. Peel back about 12 inches of the backing on a strip line up the top of the paper at the ceiling then slowly peel and stick the paper down the wall.
If you re hanging wallpaper careful planning will improve your chances for success. If you re hanging wallpaper on new drywall prime the wall first with wallpaper primer to seal the drywall and help the paper adhere to the wall. Instead make a wrap and overlap seam. Cut a piece of wallpaper larger than the plate.
Apply paste to the plate then lay it face down on the paper. Begin hanging the wallpaper at the top leaving two inches extra for trimming. Patch any holes in the walls and give time for both your patches and water on the walls to dry. Remove electrical outlet and light switch covers.
Dip the paper into the water tray. Use a wrap and overlap seam at inside l and out of plumb outside corners r. Even if the walls are perfectly plumb the paper will pull away from the corner as it dries making it vulnerable to tearing or wrinkling. Wash any dirt or dust from the old walls and sand smooth any chipped paint.
Wallpaper has a difficult time sticking to dirty or greasy walls so wipe down yours with a damp cloth. Use a cloth to wipe off any debris. Smooth down the surface with the paper hanging brush eliminating all air bubbles. Cut from the part of the pattern that matches the paper on the wall around the switch.
Never wrap wallpaper more than 1 2 inch around an inside corner with a drop. Scrape the wall and hang the paper scrape off any elevated spots on the wall image 1. Make an indentation with the scissors at the top and bottom joints where the wallpaper should end then cut off the excess. Measure out the drop length on the back of your paper.
Remove old wallpaper using wallpaper remover a wide blade and rags.
